Hi Sharon,

I've used Trados for 9 years, so I'm reasonably familiar with it (but we're not close friends). Getting started with MemoQ was very easy indeed. There's a very short, clear, and simple "Getting Started" PDF manual which explains what to do, and the clear interface of MemoQ is generally self-explanatory so I was soon able to stop referring to the manual. The steps of setting up a project are guided in a wizard format.

I was expecting that switching over from Trados would be time-consuming and painful, but it wasn't at all. Moving all the data over was very easy. Of course, if you're just starting out, you don't even have to deal with the issue of legacy data, so I would expect you would immediately begin to see productivity gains from using CAT.

It should be noted that MemoQ is a work in progress, especially for non-European languages, but I would still recommend it over Trados, especially since the new Trados is apparently somewhat incomplete. ▲ Collapse
