My British friends, now repatriated to the Southern US (ooooh.... another topic altogether...) thought that 'eh' was not really true, like the sasquatch (from British Columbia, fyi) and the tooth fairy (she's worse than the mafia, that one).;-)
But on attending a birthday party here in our little corner of Eastern Ontario, they had to admit that next to the f*** word (much more noticeable both in frequency an volume, as the night wore on and our world-famous brew was consumed in unequalled... But on attending a birthday party here in our little corner of Eastern Ontario, they had to admit that next to the f*** word (much more noticeable both in frequency an volume, as the night wore on and our world-famous brew was consumed in unequalled quantities), 'eh' was popping up all over the room, as a punctuation, an emphasis, a request for agreement with the speaker's views, and a short-form version of: pardon, could you repeat that, your accent is hard to follow through the beery haze...
Just part of our national heritage, eh?
