Demo or Trial version? Dec 29, 2008

There is a 4-minute demo in the TRADOS site. I bet you are looking for a trial version. Nowhere to be found. I could be wrong but I believe there once was such a trial version.

What's the point Dec 29, 2008

of it being there, if it cannot be published publicly? It sounds absurd to me...

Probably they realized these files were used as demo version by the newbies (which was contrary to the SDL marketing policy) or as presegmenter by some DVX bastards (which was even worse) and the name was changed.

As it's a lot of mess in SDL, this one is still available:

Thanks Dec 29, 2008

for the link!

Well, I am a proz Trados trainer and some potential students ask for a demo before they enroll to the seminars. If I tell them there is no such demo available they are taken aback; and justifiably so. Don't you agree?

Would you be willing to pay for a seminar in order to learn a program for which there is no trial version available (especially given the limitations of Trados trial).

Very useful, thank you Grzegorz. Although this DVX-using SOB owns two Trados licenses, they are for the previous version, and this will enable me to make some up-to-date screenshots for a book without being obliged to feed more money to the Evil Beast. Unless my current dispute over MT Extract upgrades is resolved, I am inclined never to give any money to SDL again. I am completely fed up with a company that shows its users less respect than I give to the trash I recycle.

The file name was published oficially by SDL, so you can use it as you like.
See http://www.translationzone.com/en/Images/Release%20notes%20SP2%20FL_tcm18-5580.pdf

The problem is the file location (I don't think it was published by SDL) but it makes a year it's public too.
E.g. you may find it several times on Proz.

So, you have all the necessary data.

No ;-P
It's a prove how SDL cares about the potential clients.
If they see the software, they may vomit.

BTW.
I work as trainer too and I see the learning curve for most "leading" CAT tools on the market is fair better than for Trados.
E.g., with a little help, a chimpanzee starts to work with Swordfish after 2-3 hours.
You can't imagine it with Trados.
And a lot of people simply get frustrated and surrend.

So, I think the SDL decision is somehow logic but it's a prove of a weakness of their software too.

Would you be willing to pay for a seminar in order to learn a program for which there is no trial version available (especially given the limitations of Trados trial).

Seriously?
I think it's simply absurd.
It's a prove of a decline of the Trados empire.
If they can't use rational arguments, the software must become a marketing mystery.

No engineer buys software he can't test.
The translators are presumed to do it.
Are we idiots?

So you are a proz Trados trainer, training sheep in the product you cant demonstrate and which the trainees, except for a black (blacked-out?) sheep or two, do not own. I dont envy you. Well, let's hear it for the boys (three, four ...)

Sweet dreams are made of this
Who am I to disagree?
I travel the world
And the seven seas--
Everybody`s looking for something.

Some of them want to use you
Some of them want to get used by you
Some of them want to abuse you
Some of them want to be abused.

[EDIT]Listen, ye cash cows: no cash, no feed, understood!?
