Hello. I have a problem in opening a Trados Multiterm database: it's a file with an mtw extension, that my PC does not recognise... Can someone help me? Thanks in advance Cinzia | | | Ralf Lemster Германия Local time: 02:43 английский => немецкий + ... More details, please | Mar 21, 2006 |
Hi Cinzia, When posting in this forum, you see a red box that says: IMPORTANT: When asking for help, please quote the full version number of each software package that is relevant to your posting. Thank you. Therefore, can you please indicate the exact version of Trados/MultiTerm you are using (full version number including the 'build number', please - go to Help - About... to find out)? This is a termbase created under MT 5.x - if you don't have that old version installed, you should be able to convert it, but this depends on which version of MultiTerm Desktop you're using. See above... Best regards, Ralf | | | Cinzia Marcelli (X) Local time: 02:43 английский => итальянский + ... Автор темы version number: Trados 6.5 | Mar 21, 2006 |
Thank you, Ralf, for your feedback. Sorry for not having mentioned the version number... I am using Trados 6.5. How do you actually convert such a file? Thanks again Cinzia | | | Ralf Lemster Германия Local time: 02:43 английский => немецкий + ... Please *read* what I asked... | Mar 21, 2006 |

In MultiTerm, you will find 6.0.2.x, 6.2.0.267, or 6.2.0.287 - but not "6.5". Don't get me wrong, but which version you have is essential - if you don't tell us, it's very difficult to help you... How do you actually convert such a file?
Using a utility called MultiTerm Convert - the first version of MultiTerm Desktop (6.0.2) had a similar tool, but not the same. That's why I keep asking these questions... Ralf

Sorry, but, as I've never used MultiTerm (I only used Trados but never created nor used an existing term database), I don't know where to get the number you're asking for: maybe in the installation CD disk? Just look at what I wrote... - Open MultiTerm. - Click on Help (on the menu). - Click on About.... Works the same way for Workbench, BTW... Many thanks, Ralf, for your patience and feedback! I finally got there! Here are the required data: MultiTerm 6.2.0.267 (Build 267) Regards Cinzia | | | Ralf Lemster Германия Local time: 02:43 английский => немецкий + ... Outdated version | Mar 21, 2006 |
Hi again, MultiTerm 6.2.0.267 (Build 267)
This is the first version of MT 6.2, which was subsequently upgraded to build 287. As you're using Workbench build 439, you may have to apply the patch (available from TranslationZone) before you can use MT in tandem with Workbench. Conversion of the old MT 5.x format shouldn't be a problem - just use MultiTerm Convert. The conversion process yields two files: first use the .xdt file to create a termbase, then import the entries, which are in the .xml file. HTH, Ralf
