Hello. SEO, Internet Marketing and everything, that's related is a 'hobby' of mine (well a hobby on which I currently spend around 50 hours a week, which I will be doing until next october, when I'm going back to college).
I was wondering if there was a way to combine my 2 'hobbies' (languages and SEO+Internet Marketing). Is the demand for such localization high enough? Is the field as competitive..salary-wise... as the general market for translators is said to be?

On the one hand, I'm thinking, there's a sh...load of supply for everything related to the web. But then again, I'm wondering if there's really a lot such software, that has to be translated.
How about localizing 'web-stuff' in general? (When you read about SEO all day long, basically you get used to the jargon of the web in general). ▲ Collapse

There are plenty of companies that probably need something in the way of an internet strategy for such things. I know the Dutch Chamber of Commerce is really setting up plans to help companies "get on the web".
The question is how much can you make them pay for it?
If you have a solid background in IT, and a good plan to contact customers (meetings of local businesses etc?) you could be in business. A personal approach mey be required for this, as I think that there is a lot of this kind of services on the web. Personal contact might just win clients over...
If you add creative writing, product marketing and press releases to it you could have a winner !
I would probably go ahead and try it on a few clients, see what kind of feedback you get.. and meanwhile don't say no to anything like 18N and L10N if related to your fields of competence...
do you know if software localization in general pays better than the general field of translation? I've read so..but then again they didn't cite any figures...
If I was to become a software localizer, could I expect to do somewhat less translation work than a regular translator (because quite a bit programming would be involved, too?)?
thank you
