I can't remember doing it more than once, and now I check very carefully before I send the mail off! On that occasion I was lucky - I sent the job to the wrong branch office of the agency, rather than directly to a wrong client, and they sent it on. I would be very unhappy to think I had really sent some of my jobs to people who were not entitled to see them. More often, I write a lot of comments, wish the PM a nice weekend etc. and forget the files altogether. We... See more
To avoid this, I always reply to the hand-off message (which I keep in my inbox until the job is closed) with my delivery files. And to avoid forgetting the attachments, Sperry software add-in for Outlook, "Attachment forget me not". And to add what Philippe said, I always begin Dear .... and immediatel press the attach the button. No writing until the translation is attached. Stephen Rifkind

Once I did absent-mindedly send a small file to the wrong client, nothing important, I just e-mailed them and said "sorry, my mistake, please ignore". No problem. Sometimes when you are a bit tired that can happen. | | | Angela Dickson (X) United Kingdom Local time: 10:26 French to English + ... not that I know of... | Feb 15, 2008 |

Yesterday, having to deliver six minimum projects to six different clients, it really scared me that I would end up delivering a wrong file to the wrong client. Thanks Jack, that looks like it might be what I need. There's an option to scan your email for the word 'attachment' and prompt you to attach it, which might just solve one aspect of Friday-itis for me. Two files with similar reference numbers coincided on my desktop. The PM was a good friend who simply said "wrong file" and ignored it as soon as she saw the title. | | | Oleg Rudavin Ukraine Local time: 12:26 Member (2003) English to Ukrainian + ... Somewhat offtopic | Feb 16, 2008 |

The first occasion had no consequences because the language was different (DE>RU translator receiving a file to be translated from Italian), but in the second incident, I attached the wrong file (it was in the filder with the same name but under a directory 2006 instead of 2007!). The translator confirned receipt ans started working. The consequences could be worse but the guy had some questions in the course of it and when he sent an email with the questions I discovered my mistake. So I ended up with paying for 20 pages' translation which I didn't need And the most exotic miss of mine was sending a piece of a job which could be regarded as sensitive to... an Interpol office! I can understand that stuff like this (not attaching the attachment, naming the wrong person/document in an e-mail, etc.) happens when we are tired/stressed out/in a hurry, and I have had a few e-mail related incidents, but what I don't understand is how you can send off the translated material to the wrong person. I have never done this - I guess I always get it right because I still think that out of all the different types of e-mail my clients and I exchange, the one that contains the actual translation is the most important one, and I am conscious of this as I write that oh-so-important e-mail (my read notifications are permanently on because I WANT to know if and when my client got the document - and I want proof that they got it, you never know). ▲ Collapse | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Poll: Have you ever delivered a project to the wrong client (recipient)?
