But "the office" is at home | | | Jocelyne S France Local time: 07:19 French to English + ...
Although my office is in my home, I make a very clear distinction between Home and Office. When at "the office", I do not let myself get distracted by things to do "at home"; conversely, when at home, I try to avoid being drawn into work to do at the office. Other than occasional business travel, I virtually never work in public places. I don't like distractions. Best, Jocelyne. | | | Mary Worby United Kingdom Local time: 06:19 German to English + ...
I work best at home inasmuch as I only work at home. I have never tried working in a public place, but can't imagine why I would want to. And I am very much at home, not in an office. Currently sitting on the sofa in the living room, surrounded by laundry!

Definitely at home, in my office. Though depending on the job, the sofa can be quite okay too! The best conditions though are an empty house with my computer and I and the radio. | | | Rebekka Groß (X) Local time: 06:19 English to German | Rick Henry United States Local time: 00:19 Italian to English + ... However, My family has a fairly remote cabin in northern Wisconsin where I've spent close to the entire summer, so I've done some work from there as well. Working at the cabin was a joy: I set up a little work area on the porch overlooking the lake. Very serene. And when I needed a break I had plenty of wildlife to look at. This year was kind of a test to see if I could competently work from there, and it was pretty successful. I plan on spending 5-6 months there next year. at home but... | Sep 10, 2009 |
I work at home, but sometimes I would like to have an office. Working at home is great for several reasons, but children and my mother in law (my babysitter) and other sources of noise are incredibly annoying.
I actually cannot say, "This is the place where I work best", as I don't have any other possibility. I mean, I don't have a laptop or an office, my pc is located in a room at home, so I can only work from there. Perhaps in an emergency I could work remotely from a public Internet booth, but definitely this one won't have SDL TRADOS installed or my personal e-mail account, so it's not of much use. I imagine myself one day with a laptop, sitting on the beach, and working... See more I actually cannot say, "This is the place where I work best", as I don't have any other possibility. I imagine myself one day with a laptop, sitting on the beach, and working from there. That probably would be my best place to work; however, I wonder if I would really work as steady as I work now or if I would be distracted, watching the sand and the sea... ▲ Collapse | | | I love working outdoors... | Sep 10, 2009 |
..but it just doesn't happen! I would love a balcony though to sit on and work.... The place where I work best is at my parent's house, as it's very quiet (small town) and I work in a huge room room with a fire all to myself with constant supplies of food, coffee, tea and inspiration! Sadly my parents being on the other side of the Atlantic, means working there is often a distant dream!! | | | José Gralike (X) Netherlands Local time: 07:19 German to Dutch + ...

I also work well at the cottage on vacation, on the porch on vacation, wherever the computer and the internet are. | | | Carla Catolino Italy Local time: 07:19 Member (2008) Italian to English + ...

I sometimes wish I had an office outside of my home. The noise is distracting and I have difficulties drawing a line between work and housework. On the other hand, I like being available for the kids when they need me and not having to depend on a babysitter. | | | Anthony Baldwin United States Local time: 01:19 Portuguese to English + ... home/office...what's the difference? | Sep 10, 2009 |
I, like others, largely work in my office, in my home. Rarely, I do take the laptop out to a local coffee shop, but very rarely. Also, I provide interpretation in a broad variety of locations (courts, doctor's office, law firms, etc.) What might be more interesting is WHEN we work best. For me, often late night and/or early morning are best. | | | Pages in topic: [1 2] > | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Poll: Where do you work best?
