And the potential eyeball over my shoulder idea gives me the creeps. Imagine having to (or feeling as if you may have to) answer a question such as, "Why did you take 30 minutes to translate 50 words, and then translated 400 in the subsequent 30 minutes?" Short two-word response!
I know from my own timesheets kept at the beginning of large projects that this sort of "erratic behaviour" on my part is not that unusual. I work at my own pace, where actual time spent on a translation and *total elapsed time from start to finish* are two different things.
I have always identified with the character Winston in the opening pages of George Orwell's novel, "Nineteen Eighty-Four". The description of him writing his first diary entry outside of the watchful gaze of Big Brother struck an immediate and lasting chord with me.

Basically, it's a CAT program that's hosted on a remote server, and you interact with it through your browser (as a client) sending commands to the program. It may be that almost nothing is stored on you local computer: no files, no TM... You just need enough computing power to run a browser.
A bit like when you write a post on proz.com. You see it but it's not stored permanently on your computer, and you send commands to commit it.
The benefit of it is that multiple people can work on the same TM/files; everything is stored on a remote computer, everything is centralised and admin/PM costs are reduced. I suppose a "thin client" would be enough, so that with 200 euros you'd be able to have a cloud-compatible machine.
Maybe some IT techies out there will be more detailed and correct.
Anyway, this whole cloud thing doesn't really appeal to me, even though I can understand the benefits for a company. As freelancers, we ought to keep some hard and tangible evidence that we actually translate, just in case.
I am no more enclined to work with any stand-alone CAT tool that can also be used as a client with a remote TM (SDL, MemoQ...). I don't like the idea of potential peeking into my working habits.

No Big Brother paranoia in my case, but I don't see why others should profit from our intellectual property by squirrelling away our carefully crafted prose for their own future revenue-generating regurgitations.

...but it was so damned slow, that I won't try it again.
As the majority here, I simply enjoy to work more at my own pace with my own CAT tools, and feeling I am in control of my own PC-World.
Hope clients forget soon this way of working.
