The Secretary of State of California (and I suppose the 49 other states as well) is the chief elections officer for the state, the head of the State Archives and is responsible for chartering corporations. This is an elected official.

The dilemma I have is with the fact that "државни секретар" is a completely different function in Serbia (unelected person named and replaced by the Gov. at will, directly responsible to the respective Minister etc.) whereas the fact that a completely different "Secretary of State" exists on the level of the US (Federal) Government represents an additional problem because the function is incorrectly translated as "Државни секретар СAД" instead of "Секретар за иностране/спољне пословe САД" which would be the best translation (even MИП/MСП is more precise than ДС), keeping in mind the bureaucratic traditions and political systems of both countries and their appropriate languages.
