Observation on specialization in general:
The most successful work is always accomplished when the translator has done several jobs for a single company, and thus becomes familiar with the company's approach and in-house language.
Comment on Law specialization:
It is one of my favorite fields because of the challenge.
Due to the precision in my analysis of contractual language, my clients have been able to return to their lawyers, or the opposing party lawyers, to remove loopholes and demand tighter clauses/provisions. BUT, I am not a lawyer, and in the end, all translations of contracts, must have their final revision done by a lawyer.
Translation and localization demand cultural versatility, fluency, and professionality.
