Spanish term

agarra

Spanish to English Other Slang British English
From a complaint from a Spaniard about an e-cigarette:

He notado que se me agarra mucho a las cuerdas vocales, me cuesta mucho toser en las cuerdas vocales. Cuando tengo que toser tarda mucho en salir la flema y tengo que toser mucho más hasta que salga la flema. Además me quedo ronco.

What would be a good British English phrase for this? I get a bad catch in my throat? My vocal cords seize up on me?

sticks to

Even though "agarrar" means grab, clutch, etc., I think sticks to could be an option.

I've noticed that it really sticks to my vocal cords

Example sentence:

Stop smoking as smoke sticks to your cords and burns them

If you smoke, stop (smoke of any kind sticks to and burns your vocal chords)
