Spanish term

balsámico de laurel

Spanish to English Other Wine / Oenology / Viticulture wine
Nota de Cata (wine)
Nariz: Franca de Albariño (balsámico de laurel)

Does that even make sense?
balsámico de laurel?
You will find "laurel balsamic" ... on Spanish sites full of Spanglish

Discussion

Justin Peterson (asker) May 13, 2020:
You're right ... it's gotta be all about the oil Yes ... I suppose they just mean that its scent is like balsamic olive oil seasoned with laurel
Amadeo Pinto May 13, 2020:
Suggestion Since the term seems to come up mostly in olive oil infused with laurel, which this isn't, for wines I'd go with either "laurel notes" or "hints of laurel".

Note from asker:
A noble thought, but what wine tasting report does not bask in Pseuds' Corner? ;)

Franca nose Albariño (balsamic bay)

Laurel is what we call in English "Bay leaf" or "Bay Leaves, quite aromatic, used in cooking through the Mediterranean but especially in Spain, so based on this I did a search and came up with the following:

The grape's name derives from the name of the laurel bush, and its scent and flavor is indeed reminescent of laurel (think “bay leaf”)—

I'd say bay leaf is more commonly used than laurel for describing wine in English sites as seen with the wine you mention specifically

agree neilmac : "Bay leaf" may seem more appealing to some consumers (I tend to associate laurel with ancient Rome)...

agree Elizabeth Joy Pitt de Morales : Agree with "bay leaf", but what is "franca" doing there? It's a Spanish word.
