Hola Juan. No se trata de la novela, sino de un guión basado en ella. Los diálogos son diferentes. El lenguaje y la ambienatción están actualizados

Take advantage of the situation

He seems to be saying 'take advantage of the fact that he likes her and gain some brownie points with the president'. I tink this might be a tiny bit more accurate than saying 'take advantage of him'....
