The burden of proof or onus of proof are the same terms, the contending party putting forth a contention before the Court needs to prove the same. For example, In a criminal case, the prosecution (the alleging party) needs to prove its case against the accused and to discharge the onus of proof they may produce eye-witnesses, documentary evidences etc.
