German term
Buchungsgrundlage
German to English
Bus/Financial
Accounting
Auditing
This is within a rather criptic Sarbanes-Oxley document. Basically the document describes internal control processes. This word appears multiple times and I need to be sure of its translation (meaning).
Context sentence:
Nach erfolgter Buchung (durchgeführt durch einen anderen Mitarbeiter) wird die korrekte Abbildung der Buchungsgrundlage in der IT-Applikation vom zuständigen Mitarbeiter überprüft.
Thanks in advance!

(underlying) basis for the entry
The correct presentation of the underlying basis for the posting (or entry if you prefer) is reviewed by the responsible employee.
This probably entails reviewing the memo for the entry and the accounts and figures for the entry to ensure that it properly reflects the transaction details (parties, accounts, figures)

Ok, then it must be the underlying document (voucher, invoice, receipt, etc.) for the posting. Same thing except they are refering to the physical document

: I agree with your translation and both possible meanings: there could be a requirement for signing a memo for the entry and/or the underlying document

accounting basis
"Accounting basis" seems to hit the point, but since I'm not quite sure, you may want to have a look at the two links mentioned below.
A German site mentioning "Buchungsgrundlage" to be dealt with in a software application can be found here:

Example sentence:
The accounting basis needs to be selectable by fund, Cash or Accrual. Commercial systems do not provide this feature.

original receipt
This sounds to me like entries are checked against the original receipts the entry is based on. During an audit, entries are checked against originals.
