Dutch term
Commoditisering
Dutch to English
Bus/Financial
Marketing / Market Research
A term in a marketing plan for a large Dutch insurance company.
Example sentence: 'Mede door commoditisering van internet en afnemend vertrouwen in financiële dienstverleners vragen ze begrijpelijke producten en transparante prijzen.'
I suspect that a fast lowering of prices or rates in a certain market is meant with this term but I am not sure.
Thanks in advance.

commoditisation
"A commodity is a product that is completely undifferentiated. If a product becomes less differentiated, so that buyers care less about who they buy from, this change is called commoditisation."

commoditising
I believe this is an example of "new-speak" making a verb from the noun commodity. It would fit with the context of the internet turning more and more products into commodities rather than specialities

Note from asker:
I think you are right. I felt that way the moment I saw the term. I am proofreading the document now and the translator 'conveniently' left the term out in the English text. |
