Dear translators,

I've come across the term 'schattingsposten' and cannot find the English term anywhere. The text is the corporate governance code of a bank and this is the context:

De auditcommissie richt zich in ieder geval op ..... inzicht in de behandeling van “schattingsposten” in de jaarrekening, prognoses, werk van in- en externe accountants terzake, etc.).

In my opinion It can mean either an estimate or a balancing item, which is basically fudging the figures because the two sides of the account don't balance. I would ask the customer which term is more appropriate.

@Michael It seems that 'balancing items' or perhaps rather 'balancing entries' would indeed be correct here. If you post this as an answer, you can count on my agree :-)
