Definition / notes: | You may have also heard this referred to as balloon angioplasty. After it has been determined you have a blockage in a heart vessel, a catheter with a small balloon is inserted into this vessel. The balloon is then inflated and it opens up the artery again. Sometimes a stent (a small flexible mesh metal tube) is then placed in this area to help hold the vessel open. |
