pacsés recognised couple
Creator: | |
Language pair: | French to English |
Definition / notes: | It is probably best to explain the origin of the term: The French government introduced a law a few years back called le Pacte social de solidarité. Following the pacs, co-habitating couples can enter into a civil contract which is similar to marriage in terms of reciprocal rights (and retirement benefits etc) without involving any religious aspect. For futher details, check: www.diplomatie.gouv.fr/etrangers/vivre/pacs/ Accordingly, it is said of couples who conclude such a contract that they are pacsé (actually, I had never heard the expression - wonder what the Académie Fr. has to say about it? Is French becoming more flexible .... ) |
