: no, it is weighing by difference, not weighing the difference, which I think would be impossible to do:); "weighing the difference" means something else entirely to what the source text means. Thank you!

Yes, I explained it poorly, but I had the same idea as you. I meant ‘weighing the difference’ as a shorthand for ‘obtaining the difference by weighing the vial with and without the content’.
