shoal - Area of sand or shingle just below the surface of the water at low water....cf. Bank. (iii)

bank - (iii) Raised shelf or ground in a sea, lake or river usually covered by water.....cf. Sandbank.

shelf - Strip of near horizontal mountain terrain delimited by steeper slopes, both above and below...cf. Ledge.

bar - (i) Bank of sand, mud or shingle formed in shallow water across the mouth of a river or the entrance to a bay or harbour.......cf. shoal.
(ii) Submerged ridge of bed-rock in a water feature....cf. rock, reef.
