dandamesh Jan 20, 2015:
@Janice please see my reference below and consider tuft
Janice Giffin Jan 20, 2015:
Hi Ewa Could you ask your client for more info or perhaps a photo?
Ewa Chojnowska (asker) Jan 20, 2015:
just wanted you both to know I'm closely following the discussion, but so far, alas, I'm none the wiser... :(
Janice Giffin Jan 20, 2015:
Hi dandamesh Can the phrase "singola fibra di lana" be used to refer to a synthetic? I don't see anything in your reference that talks about the absorbtion of humidity, which seems important in this context. I also don't feel any closer to an English term for a process "lavorazione a pelo". hmmmm...
dandamesh Jan 20, 2015:
I understand a sort of knitted pile fabric made with wool
see for fake fur http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modacrylic
I think the fabric may also be used in bed for night wellness
Janice Giffin Jan 20, 2015:
@Ewa It sounds like a tanning process for shearling. The sheep is shorn before slaughter, and the skin then undergoes tanning processes without unhairing. Chrome (or other) tanning replaces cellular fat with tannins to prevent putrefaction. I hope this helps.
Ewa Chojnowska (asker) Jan 20, 2015:
umm unfortunately I do not hold the answer, but... it seems that this technology is somehow designed to enhance the quality of cozy and warm rest - cf. " il sopradetto tessuto a maglia a pelo, di pura lana ha la caratteristica di igroscopicità, cioe la capacità di assorbire umidità e quindi mantenere il corpo umano che sta coprendo perfettamente asciutto durante il riposo.
Janice Giffin Jan 20, 2015:
Any more information available? This seems to be a finishing procedure for sheepskin, used for jackets, rugs, blankets and other articles. Am I on the right track?

Tufted Underblankets
Tufted underblankets are be made by a process whereby short, or long (often known as Flokati) tufts of wool are individually inserted into a pre-woven backing using a needling technique.
Sliver Knit Underblankets
Silver knit underblankets are made using a process which converts wool fibres directly to fabric without the need to produce a yarn. Individual wool fibres are interlocked into the base structure as an integral part of the knitting process.
The resultant pile fabrics are very similar in appearance to natural sheepskin. Most products are produced with a synthetic yarn backing and an adhesive backcoating to bind the fibres into the knitted base.

agree Janice Giffin : Sliver knit process sounds the closest

thanks Janice, I also posted a link in the discussion for "lavorato a manto", lavorazione a pelo seems to be a more general term

lavorazione a pelo

Glenoit’s special sliver (sly-ver) knitting process locks individual fibers
directly into a lightweight knit backing allowing each fiber to stand
upright, free from the backing to form the soft pile on the face of the
fabric.
