Διωκτικό παραλήρημα λέγεται 100% persecution mania. Απαντάται πολύ συχνά σε ψυχιατρικές διαταραχές και σχιζοφρένεια.

Νορμοθυμία: normothymia/normal mood period. Είναι η "φυσιολογική" περίοδος μεταξύ των άκρων της μανίας και της κατάθλιψης σε περιπτώσεις μανιοκατάθλιψης/bipolar disorder.

Τόσο η διάρκεια όσο και ο τύπος ενός επεισοδίου διαφέρει από άτομο σε άτομο. Μερικές φορές μπορεί να διαρκέσει από ώρες έως ημέρες. Άλλες φορές διαρκεί εβδομάδες ή και μήνες. Μεταξύ των επεισοδίων είναι πιθανό να επικρατεί μια φυσιολογική περίοδος (οι ιατροί την αποκαλούν ‘νορμοθυμία’). Η εμφάνιση τεσσάρων ή περισσοτέρων μανιακών ή καταθλιπτικών επεισοδίων σε ένα έτος, χαρακτηρίζεται ως ‘ταχεία ανακύκληση’, μια κατάσταση που θεραπεύεται πολύ πιο δύσκολα.
