German term

einfacher gesagt eben original

German to English Science Wine / Oenology / Viticulture Viticultural zoning
Hierzu die Beschreibung von Huglin (1972) der die Konzeption der D.O. Qualtätsweingebiete auf folgende Grundlage stellt: “der Begrenzung der Zonen auf solche mit besonders bevorzugten ökologischen Voraussetzungen, einfacher gesagt eben original.”

I have the feeling that the German author may have translated this from French or English (although I have my doubts as to whether this was a direct quote from Huglin), and may have left something out -

I cannot work out what "original" refers to - Voraussetzungen? If so, how to fit the phrase into the rest of the sentence is a problem for me!

Any rephrasing suggestions in German (or French), or translation suggestions in English, or ideas as to what would be missing, would be welcome.

This appears in a section which is discussing the ecosystem of the vineyard as terroir in relation to soil type and climatic factors.
(I can ask the author in about one week's time, but would appreciate some linguistic help before then.)
TIA

Discussion

Allison Wright (X) (asker) Apr 23, 2011:
@ Andres I am aware of what the Huglin Index is. Thanks all the same. All I asked was a grammatical question about the last four words in this sentence.
andres-larsen Apr 23, 2011:
Heliothermal Index of Huglin-Huglin Climate Index Pierre Huglin created the Heliothermal Index of Huglin, also known as the Huglin Climate Index, which is a multicriteria climatic classification system used for modelling heat requirements for cultivars.
phillee Apr 23, 2011:
I think they really means 'ursprüngliche' i.e. the original locations that warranted the designation and by default have the right conditions for growing.
Allison Wright (X) (asker) Apr 23, 2011:
Interesting that two of the responses so far have taken "original" to mean "organic". I shall have to confirm the author's intention on this one - in the meantime, I shall go with unique, as Inge suggested. (It is organic in the sense that the broader article discusses the interaction of environmental (natural) factors with the crop in areas of Designated Origin, but is not specifically advocating, or describing, organic cultivation as such.)
Horst Huber (X) Apr 22, 2011:
I would suspect this might be a garbled way of speaking about designations of authenticity?
Thayenga Apr 22, 2011:
Just a thought Perhaps "natural" would work here as well. These regions are refering to their organic cultivation. This is quite unique.
Inge Meinzer Apr 22, 2011:
@ Allison, thanks, no need for points.
Christian Schneider Apr 22, 2011:
...simply said, original (wine) regions ... I think that is meant here (after all, they have become original wine regions just because of their favorable ecological conditions)
Allison Wright (X) (asker) Apr 22, 2011:
Thank you, Inge Another pair of eyes always helps. I shall probably put, "...conditions, which, simply put, are unique". Would you care to enter this as an answer? :)
Inge Meinzer Apr 22, 2011:
Hi Allison, yes, IMHO the author is referring to growing conditions, which he/she describes as "unique".
Allison Wright (X) (asker) Apr 22, 2011:
I should also mention the section subtitle: *Viticultural Zoning (geographical terroir demarcation) from the macro scale to the plot*
Also: here is the translated paragraph just prior to the term question:The various definitions which attempt to come to terms with the concept of demarcated viticultural terroir, or viticultural zoning, have reflected a certain degree of nuance caused primarily by the specific conditions applicable in each country. What is clear, however is that terroir research has agreed that territories be divided into zones in which the interactions between the vine and environmental media are as homogeneous as possible (Fregoni et al., 1998). In the Iberian Peninsula, the production of quality wines takes place to a large extent in quality wine DO regions (See 1.3).

Note from asker:
Thanks, Andres. It was just the last four words of the sentence that stumped me. You raise an interesting point on "original", though.
