German term

am aktuellen Rand

German to English Bus/Financial Economics
Sentence:
Positive Signale für die Binnenkonjunktur kommen **am aktuellen Rand** allerdings erfreulicherweise von Seiten der XX-Industrie.

I am a bit puzzled by 'Rand'. Is this mean to refer to the end of the last quarter or half-year, i.e. the last period for which reliable figures are available? And if so, to which period? Would be grateful for any insights.

TIA
Karin

Discussion

Deborah Shannon Aug 12, 2005:
It seems to me this is a phrase with a specific meaning in mathematical statistics which non-statisticians use more liberally without such a precise meaning; here perhaps just 'the latest' figures or projections based on them (not necessarily reliable)
