Hello Gudrun! If the text is referring to this special place, then you're right. I would then add then name. If it is speaking generally then I would prefer my suggestion, as there have been hundreds of art labs in the '70s and '80s - I was a member of one in New York in '82 that not only put on experimental theaters pieces, but also produced cabaret and "performance parties".
