Dutch term

contrastuitsparing

Dutch to English Medical Medical (general)
In a radiology report from a Chest CT:
"Op image [number], contrastuitparing te zien, passend bij longembolieen van de rechter arteria pulmonalis in de bovenkwab".

Many thanks.

Discussion

ebell (asker) Oct 24, 2006:
from the equivalent German Kontrastaussparung - which is given as "filling defect" in the Roche online medical dictionary in terms of radiology
(and Aussparung as "gap").
So in my translation I put 'filling defect' too, but I'm afraid that my limited knowledge of radiology means that I don't know how this translation might equate to the two suggestions that you kindly made, which might well be perfectly correct too!

contrasting translucency/opacity

A bit of a guess. Medisch Woordenboek [Mosterd/Bohn Stafleu Van Loghum] defines 'uitsparing' in a radiologicol sense as 'translucency', which, I believe, is the same as opacity. But I'm no expert by a long shot!
