In my opinion, उन्होंने एक पत्र भेजा है is the translation that better suits the original meaning.
I think उन्होंने कोई पत्र भेजा है conveys a meaning where the letter is "a certain letter". Similarly, उन्होंने पत्र भेजा है is not accurate because it omits the "a" of the source text.
