engleski na srpski: Women and HIV/AIDS General field: Medicina Detailed field: Medicina: zdravstvo
Izvorni tekst - engleski Women and HIV/AIDS
Today, women account for nearly 50% of all infections worldwide, and among people under the age of 24 living with HIV, two thirds are women. For biological reasons, women are about twice as likely as men to get infected by HIV during sex.
Women’s position in society also makes them much more vulnerable. In many parts of the world, women are not granted the freedom to choose how to protect themselves or to control when their partners use a condom.
Education and Prevention
Education is the most powerful tool in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Knowledge about how HIV is transmitted and how to prevent infection is a key defence in the spread of HIV. But in many societies, girls and young women do not have easy access to such information due to a lack of education. They are also denied access to prevention services, such as male or female condoms.
It is vital that women everywhere are provided with information and access to prevention methods that they can control. (Microbicides, a substance that can come in the form of a gel but is still being developed, could provide women with such control).
Protection, Respect and the Role of Men
Women, both married and unmarried, are put at risk of contracting HIV by the behaviour of others. In many parts of the world, marriage and long-term relationships do not protect women from HIV and their lack of social power and economic independence mean that women have to rely on men’s cooperation to protect them from HIV.
Shockingly, more than a fifth of all girls and young women report that their first sexual encounter was forced. Across the world, women are also being exploited through trafficking and sex work (www.mtvexit.org). Women must be protected from violence and exploitation to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS. Men have a key role to play here - they need to be involved by making sure that women are less vulnerable and by respecting women’s choices.
Prevod - srpski Žene i HIV / SIDA
Edukacija i prevencija
Edukacija je najmoćnije oružje u borbi protiv HIV-a, tj. SIDE.
Zaštita i uloga muškaraca u poštovanju žena
„trafficking“) i seksualne zloupotrebe (www.mtvexit.org).
engleski na hrvatski: Davidoff: The story behind the legend General field: Marketing Detailed field: Oglašavanje / odnosi sa javnošću
Izvorni tekst - engleski Davidoff: The story behind the legend
Where does the Davidoff legend start? In Kiev, in 1906, with the birth of Zino Davidoff into a family which had a modest tobacco business. At home, the young Zino watched and learned as his father prepared special blends of pipe and cigarette tobacco.
Fast-forward, to 1911 – and Geneva. After a difficult journey lasting three months, the Davidoff family settled in Switzerland – and once again, began to practice the art of tobacco blending. Before long, word got around. In the new Davidoff boutique in Geneva, you could soon find yourself rubbing shoulders with Russian exiles – among them, Vladimir Lenin the future leader of the USSR, a devotee of Davidoff’s Turkish-style cigarettes. Already, in the minds of aficionados, Davidoff had become a name synonymous with quality.
But there is a limit to what a boy can learn about tobacco – even when is father is a master.
So at eighteen, Zino Davidoff headed for the heart of the tobacco world, in the Americas.
Armed with little more than letters of introduction from his father, Zino Davidoff embarked on an adventure that took him from Argentina to Brazil – and ultimately, to Cuba.
For two years, Zino Davidoff worked at a finca (tobacco firm), developing a remarkable appreciation of Havana cigars – and learning everything there was to know about tobacco-making: the secrets of growing the finest tobacco, the art of drying, processing and aging the leaves. Most importantly, he acquired the skill of blending tobacco to create the marvelous cigars.
At just twenty-three, in 1929, Zino Davidoff returned to Geneva to work in his father’s tobacco shop. There he introduced a revolutionary concept: a special cellar for his precious cigars, which was air-conditioned and humidified for proper storage. (Until then, only wine had been given that level of care). For the first time in Europe, cigar lovers could be assured of optimum quality, because Zino Davidoff understood not only how to create an excellent cigar but how to maintain their perfection until the moment of smoking.
Lovers of the good life recognised in Zino Davidoff a rare characteristic: his quest for the best meant that he would settle for nothing less. As Zino Davidoff once famously said himself, “the appreciation of fine cigars, like the appreciation of fine wines, requires a certain culture and knowledge of fine living”. But it was not only their own quest for the best that attracted a loyal and elite clientele to the Davidoff store: it was the man himself. With a rare geniality, bonhomie and charm (not to mention a world-class sense of humour) Zino Davidoff’s charisma ensured that countless clients became friends, too – with whom he shared the good life.
