Source text - English CAUTIOUS INVESTIGATORS WILL HESITATE to challenge the common belief that Robert Blake was killed by lightning, or by some profound nervous shock derived from an electrical discharge.
It is true that the window he faced was unbroken, but nature has shown herself capable of many freakish performances. The expression on his face may easily have arisen from some obscure muscular source unrelated to anything he saw, while the entries in his diary are clearly the result of a fantastic imagination aroused by certain local superstitions and by certain old matters he had uncovered. As for the anomalous conditions at the deserted church of Federal Hill – the shrewd analyst is not slow in attributing them to some charlatanry, conscious or unconscious, with at least some of which Blake was secretly connected.
For after all, the victim was a writer and painter wholly devoted to the field of myth, dream, terror, and superstition, and avid in his quest for scenes and effects of a bizarre, spectral sort. His earlier stay in the city – a visit to a strange old man as deeply given to occult and forbidden lore as he – had ended amidst death and flame, and it must have been some morbid instinct which drew him back from his home in Milwaukee. He may have known of the old stories despite his statements to the contrary in the diary, and his death may have nipped in the bud some stupendous hoax destined to have a literary reflection.

L’espressione sul suo volto poteva facilmente essere stata frutto di una qualche oscura contrattura muscolare non correlata a qualcosa che aveva visto, mentre le annotazioni sul suo diario sono chiaramente il risultato di una fantastica immaginazione stimolata da alcune superstizioni locali e da alcune faccende che aveva scoperto. Mentre per quanto riguarda le condizioni anomale della chiesa abbandonata di Federal Hill – l’osservatore scaltro non esita ad attribuirle a qualche ciarlataneria, intenzionale o meno, alla quale Blake non poteva era esserne segretamente in relazione.
Perché dopotutto, la vittima era uno scrittore e un pittore completamente dedito al campo del mito, del sogno, del terrore e della superstizione, e avido nella sua ricerca di ogni genere di scene ed effetti bizzarri e spettrali. Source text - Spanish La fe de san José fue probada con el embarazo de María. Como era hombre justo y no quería ponerla en evidencia, resolvió repudiarla en secreto. Así lo había planeado cuando un ángel se le apareció en sueños y le reveló
que lo engendrado en ella era obra del Espíritu Santo, renunciando a llevar adelante su primera intención (Mateo 1: 19-24).
En la pintura, san José ocupa el primer plano, recostado y con los ojos cerrados, con su mano izquierda sosteniéndose la cabeza, en actitud reflexiva y recibiendo el mensaje del ángel enviado por Dios, dispuesto sobre el patriarca.
[...]. A la derecha, en el plano superior, aparece Dios Padre bañado por una luz dorada que procede de la paloma del Espíritu Santo. Otros tres ángeles descansan sobre una nube situada entre estos y san José.
En una habitación contigua, a la derecha, la Virgen reza ajena a lo que sucede en el primer plano. El aire doméstico de la escena queda reforzado por detalles como el gato que descansa junto a una banqueta o la cesta en la que asoman los útiles de carpintero.
Translation - Italian La fede di san Giuseppe fu messa alla prova dalla gravidanza di Maria. Dato che era un uomo giusto e non voleva accusarla pubblicamente, decise di ripudiarla in segreto. Questa era la sua intenzione ma, quando gli apparve in sogno un angelo, il quale gli rivelò che il bambino che Maria portava in grembo era opera dello Spirito Santo, rinunciò a portare a termine il piano iniziale (Matteo 1: 19-24).
Nel dipinto, San Giuseppe è posto in primo piano, sdraiato e con gli occhi chiusi, con la mano sinistra che regge la testa in atteggiamento riflessivo mentre riceve il messaggio dell’angelo inviato da Dio, raffigurato al di sopra del patriarca.
[...] In alto a destra, appare Dio Padre illuminato da una luce dorata ppare Dio Padre illuminato da una luce dorata che proviene dalla colomba dello Spirito Santo. Altri tre angeli riposano su una nuvola che si trova tra loro e San Giuseppe.
In una stanza adiacente, sulla destra, la Vergine prega estranea a quanto che succede in primo piano. L’aria domestica della scena è
rafforzata dai dettagli come il gatto che riposa vicino ad una seggiola o la cesta in cui spuntano gli attrezzi del falegname.
