My résumé is dated (i.e. it mentions the current year near the top), so it's rather crucial that I update it at least once a year. I also update the "personal" section with my children's ages each year. And I update the version numbers of the CAT tools. 7 years ago I updated the photograph. More the point: when last did you update your website?

More the point: when last did you update your website? You can use fields. For your children , no problems. Of course, you would have to migrate to a CAT tool that uses the year in its version number…

when I feel motivated to do so e.g. when a good potential client asks for it. But it is not even once a year. Nevertheless, despite you don't need it often, it's important to have a CV.
Maybe once a year to change the date and eventually to add something new though at my age I doubt I'll be doing much of that…

I have lots ot CVs, and each one considers a certain area of specialization / type of a client / country. So I update my CVs quite often.

As a freelancer, who is not seeking permanent employment with a company, I don't have a CV, only a business brochure which I update frequently. That is, whenever a mayor item needs to be added in order to attract a new type of client.

Including personal information is a normal part of the résumé in some cultures. I understand that it is often excluded in some other cultures.

Do you know how many psychos on the loose out there? If a potential client asked me how old my children are, I’d contact both the FBI and the Interpol. What does it have anything to do with my candidacy as a contractor, anyway?

How could sharing that information possibly cause anybody any harm? What does it have anything to do with my candidacy as a contractor, anyway? Nothing, I agree. UK civil service job applications do not include your name, age, gender or location, or the dates or employers for your previous jobs. Well meaning, but ridiculous.
