Backache Sep 3, 2013

Yes, if I spend too long at my computer my upper back starts to ache, and my shoulders hurt too. I rest for a couple of days and I am fine.

If you mean... Sep 3, 2013

Do I get any aches and pains sitting for long stretches at a time in front of a computer? Then "Yes", which is how I answered.

Stiff shoulders, aches in the lower lumbar region, eye strain and accompanying headaches, and carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) would, I believe, be symptoms suffered by workers who are sedantary for long periods of time, and are not necessarily limited to our profession.

Yes, but Sep 3, 2013

I used to get the usual upper back pain etc, but it's much better now that I'm using voice-recognition software for a lot of my translations.

Definitely Sep 3, 2013

Back, neck, shoulder pain like everyone else, and also poor circulation. If I sit for several hours, my ankles swell.

I sometimes work while standing up on an elevated table, or take breaks to wash the dishes, cook, laundry, clean up after the kids....they all help...thank God for those house chores.

No, I would say it's the other way around! Sep 3, 2013

I have been suffering for some years from articular chondrocalcinosis (a rare genetic disorder) and from time to time when I'm in the middle of a crisis it’s difficult to manage to work...

Seriously, I quote from the doctor's letter: "Livedo Reticularis - Stop using laptop on lap"

It leaves you with some highly interesting and decorative marbled design on your thigh.

Cool...

I voted no. Sep 3, 2013

I use a kneeling chair (I've been lucky to find these in the local charity shop so far!) and an ergonomic keyboard. I also am flexible about which hand I use for mouse control - if I'm beginning to get a little trouble in the mouse-control hand I swap it to the other hand.
All of these took a little getting used to but I find it helps enormously with comfort (and healthy practices) while working.

Somewhat Sep 3, 2013

Freelance work is not as easy as considered. As Self owned business, there is need to sit regular at least 8 to 10 hours in a day. After sometimes health problems are obvious. I am suffered from eye problems and leg ache.

I've tried a number of different keyboards Sep 3, 2013

My current keyboard is a Microsoft 4000 natural ergonomic, which I do find really comfortable.

Not anymore, anyone ever had lumbago? Sep 3, 2013

I had a bad case of lumbago last January and had to stay in bed for two weeks (I was able to limp along after two weeks and the pain was completely gone only by the end of March); not to mention experiencing the most painful... pain ever. I had to wake up every five minutes during the first night and completely exhausted my multilingual swearing vocabulary.

As a result of this wondrous experience, I'm absolutely not afraid of dentists anymore, not allowed to jog (as this will further compress my spine), and have a green belt in Taekwondo. Basically, I don't care about having an uncomfortable chair anymore because half an hour of stretching, jumping and kicking every day is a very effective treatment/prevention for the minor back problems (chiropractor can help with major back problems).

I've also had a problem with my elbow but I think it doesn't have anything to do with working in front of computer.

While I said no... Sep 3, 2013

... I recently had an operation during which a stent was placed behind my knee. Using a computer is not a problem, but I must take care how I sit down because I am not allowed to bend my knee too far. That is not discomfort, but it is awkward. I am looking for a new desk where I can stretch my leg completely, but it is not an urgent issue for me.
