Not all of them, of course, but I've met with staff from one of my British clients (when I was in London) and quite a few of my Spanish clients (in Madrid and Barcelona).

If I do not meet them at ProZ meetings, I make an attempt to drive past when am on holiday or just fly there on purpose if the turnover from them allows this. Human contact

No, not yet Feb 22, 2011

Thus far I haven't met any of my clients. - Skype doesn't count, does it?

However, I'm planning on meeting one or two the next time I'll go on vacation.

Ongoing multinational cultural cooperation Feb 22, 2011

I managed to set up an ongoing work relationship with a multinational cultural association located in Austria. The cooperation has been active for more than a decade to date, and consequently numerous projects have been worked out, with in person meetings on either side included.
I will set out to Austria for a further preparation session of yet another academic print publication the current week again.

... though not all. As a matter of fact, one collaboration started after I had met the staff in their premises.

it's the only way to get a tax deductible trip to such delightful foreign destinations as Stafford or Swindon!

A couple Feb 22, 2011

I've met a couple of my long-standing customers in person. Once for a workshop, once I just dropped in as we were nearby on holiday.

I have never met any of my UK customers, though. Maybe the tax-deductible trips to Swindon and Stafford don't have the same appeal when they're just down the road!

No,but.. Feb 22, 2011

If I have an opportunity to go to a place where my regular clients live, I would like to call on them. Sometimes they say 'pay a visit'. Also I'd like to meet the person who still hasn't responded to me since I sent my translation...

Impossible Feb 22, 2011

Almost none of my clients are natural persons, so meeting them is impossible.

Agencies don't count! Feb 22, 2011

I have met several staff of agencies and a couple of owners, and one or two local clients, but not foreign ones.

I have talked on the phone to some of the people from end clients - on terminology and various other aspects of the translation.

Most of my clients are actually corporate entities too, but fortunately they include physical individuals who make the decisions or can answer my questions.

Sure Feb 22, 2011

I try whenever I can

personal contact, also via Skype or other media, supports the relationship to customers. You get to know them better and issues get settled easier if you know the other person
