I am using an iPhone | Sep 1, 2010 |
And since I am most of the time at my desk, I don't see the reason to buy an iPad. I only need such a device (iPad or iPhone) for receiving emails instantly while I am out of the office and my iPhone fully covers this necessity.

That remained me of something that happened to me a while ago. It was shortly before iPad's launch, the media hype didn't start yet and I wasn't aware that such thing existed. I was translating website content. There was a competition and the prize was an iPad. I wrote to my agency "There's a spelling mistake in the source text. Surely you meant iPod" Felt pretty embarrassed when they explained "No, we did not. iPad is a new gadget" ... See more That remained me of something that happened to me a while ago. A laptop and mobile Internet will do. Don't need extra gadgets in my home at this time.

There are so many other powerful pieces of equipment for the same price that are not limited in what they can do. It is not always good to go with the hype. Appel computers are excellent, but no further, to insecure!!!

When travelling, the kind of things clients may want you to do are complicated - like putting back the format on a file that they somehow messed up, which was written in a language they don't understand. That, on holidays and conferences. Otherwise, the current phones suffice. However, it occurs to me as one solution for people who need two screens at once, particularly considering the legibility of the IPad. For revisors or editors, for instance.
I don't see how an iPad could prove useful for work. I personally think it's a waste of money.
In my opinion, all these gudgets are toys for youth, not something useful for serious work.

I was a Mac user (owner of an iMac and iBook) for some time 10 years ago when there wasn't such a hype for everything Apple. Now I have access to four PCs: two running Windows XP and two running Ubuntu. An iPad? No thanks.

It's a fashion item for most users. My daughters loves hers, but my colleague hates his because of the lockstep/closed factor.

Being the forgetful person, I don't think I need it as I might lose it at the airport. Recently, when visiting the US, I "managed" to leave behind the adaptor+cable in the States (at my sister's place). It doesn't help with having to proofread a 30-page document on iPad. It's best to check out Internet access where you are visiting. My business was semi-paralysed when I couldn't work non-stop at my relatives place. And I don't want to impose on my relatives.

It is light, small and thin: I can bring it with me everywhere in the bicycle, which I use a lot, specially when I have no projects at hand. And yes, weight and size really matter when you are riding. 2. The battery last way longer than most netbooks or ultralight laptops. I need a device which stays connected in case I receive messages from clients or I have to do any urgent revision while on the road, and that could be a problem with the battery life of most laptops today. 3. It has 3G: As I said, it is very important for me to stay connected anytime, anywhere. 4. Reading: I like to seat down in the middle of nowhere after pedaling for hours and read. Of course, I could bring along a book, but with the water, the spare clothes and other small staff, it starts getting bulky. So it is great to have a device that can be used for working and reading. Will I buy one? I don't know yet. Probably not. I like the idea, but I will wait a bit for a functioning tablet PC or a netbook with a great battery life and 3G. I was thinking about the Nokia 3G Laptop, but I think the Atom processor will be a drag for a mammoth software like Trados 2009. ▲ Collapse
