History and archaeology
The Carmel region carries a fascinating history of nature and humanity. Prehistoric man walked here erect, generals and kings chose this region as a strategic control point, Jews, Christians, Moslems and Druze sanctified its sites and unique forms of settlement arose in it throughout history.

The Carmel region was good for man already in prehistoric times. Prehistoric man dwelled in the big caves on the mountain and his remnants were discovered in the world heritage site Nahal Mearot. The quality of the land, the natural richness of fauna and flora, the fertility of the region with water and the closeness to the sea attracted peoples and religions to dwell in the Carmel region and develop unique forms of settlement in it like kibbutzim and moshavim in which settlers of the region developed vineyards, olives, fruit and banana orchards whose tending continued until today. Nature and landscape on the Carmel
Mt. Carmel with its wild cliffs, its green and fresh vegetation in all the days of the year, the forest and grove trees, the abundance of animals and the view of the sea seen from it make it an attractive target for nature tours, camping, varied cultures and challenging activities. The Old town of Dayan is a representative of their centralization and therefore people often call it The Old town of Dayuan or Dayan town. The Old town of Dayuan is located in the middle of Lijiang basin.In the town’s southwest there is a mountain, who's shape looks like a pen which stands in the sky, and the Lijiang basin looks like a big ink stone.
