run off behaviour

The sentence is from the book 'Şu Çılgın Türkler' and tells how the residents of Adana celebrated the entry of Turkish forces to Adana in 1922. People of Adana used to run away when they saw armed forces but this time they did not since it was the Turkish forces coming.
