Portuguese term

fazer

Portuguese to English Medical Nutrition
I do not understand "fazer" in this sentence.

Thanks very much for your help.

Discussion

Silvia Aquino Feb 8, 2012:
Sheryle Oliver Feb 7, 2012:
Agora entendi (acho). If politicians negotiated as well as we do, there would be peace in the world - and more good translations.
Silvia Aquino Feb 7, 2012:
Sheryle Oliver Feb 7, 2012:
In the final analysis, the choice between /know-how/ and /role/ should depend on the broader context. Whereas /know-how/ indicates that the nutitionist understands the relevant theory and how to apply it, /role/ suggests that he/she also helps shape theory and practice. I got off track, by the way, due to not realizing that /representações sociais/ was a technical term in this case. Thanks for putting me back on and thanks for the interchange.
Silvia Aquino Feb 7, 2012:
Sheryle Oliver Feb 6, 2012:
OK, Silvia. I agree that the translation was faulty, but stand by the /role/. I would therefore like to know if the following would be correct: The purpose of the study was to gain an understanding of the social representations of family health team professionals as to the theoretical and practical role of the nutritionist.
Silvia Aquino Feb 6, 2012:
Sheryle Oliver Feb 5, 2012:
I wouldn't either, but I'm a native Californian.
Georgia Morg (X) Feb 5, 2012:
circumflex accent on role I know this is a side issue, but I wanted to know how many of you out there would use a circumflex accent on role, as Nick does. I wouldn't. I think it is very strange to use the French form.

role

Suggestion: The aim of the study was to determine the social impact of family health teams on the theoretical and practical role of the nutritionist.

Thanks, Nick. Role and rôle being correct, how you spell it depends on where you are.
disagree Silvia Aquino : Sorry, but your translation changed completely the meaning of the original.

Please explain. What is the meaning, then, and what else could we do with that /sobre/ preceding /o fazer/? Especially in underdeveloped regions, f.h.t. strongly influence the attitude of the population towards nutritionists (and other med professionals).
