Medicina
Medicina: farmacêutica
Statistical tests
From Methods and Data Analysis section of Ethics Committee decision (describing statistics used to analyze clinical trial data) in Brazil
Full sentence:
Pelo menos XXX eventos são necessários para garantir um poder de 90% de detecção da diferença na SG pelo teste de log-rank estratificado com erro do tipo-1 unilateral i = 0,025, e taxa de risco real subjacente de 0,65.
I know that this is "stratified log-rank test" and "type I error", but what does "unilateral" (one-sided) modify?
I think the "i" is a typo, and should probably be "p".
Thanks for any help you can offer! I would also appreciate any references to basic statistics textbooks that might help.

stratified log-rank test with one-sided type-I error rate i = 0.025
"One-sided" refers to the statistic's distribution. Every statistical test is associated with a distribution that is used to calculate significance and error. As this sentence focuses on the error rate, I would write "stratified log-rank test with one-sided type-I error rate i = 0.025"
The "i" is NOT a p-value. You cannot calculate a p-value without actual data, which you don't have at this point.

I think this i can be an error as well; have you looked at the rest of the document?
Also, I believe one-sided modifies the test. At least this is the way see it written most often in the protocols I translate from English into Portuguese.
