the problem is that there's a lot of disagreement as to how to translate the word "reitor." You may prefer the suggestions made by others. Some people write "president and provost" as corresponding better to the actual duties of a reitor in Brazil.

When I was at Boston University, we referred to the head of the university as the Dean, and the heads of departments as Head, for example, Head of the English Department - this is the U.S., though, don't know about other English-speaking countries.
