Once again, I need someone in the know as regards architectural terminology. The term is from a description of the ceiling of a church:
"a cobertura é feita por uma abóbada em madeira, imitando uma abóbada de berço".

barrel vault or tunnel vault: The simplest form of a vault, consisting of a continuous surface of semicircular or pointed sections. It resembles a barrel or tunnel which has been cut in half lengthwise
