Comment: "Valeu, pessoal! Robert, I've got the same feeling as you had regarding the word "adoption" in this context, this is why I posted the question. But the translation in pretty much industry-specific and the references leads me to believe that the word, strange as it sounds, is indeed used in the context. The expression in Portuguese is weird as well... :) Thanks a zillion!"

This is the way it would be said in English.

I can see that there are references for the term, but "adoption of textbooks" or "adoption of books" sounds bizarre in English. It makes it sound like the book is a sentient being that is going to be taken home and cared for....
This is the way it would be said in English.
