French term

animations (objects not events!)

French to English Marketing Textiles / Clothing / Fashion
I think this refers to the recurring motif on a line of clothing, and am wondering if there is a generic word for what you put on a piece of clothing to, well, enliven it:

"[character] en vedette : traité graphique, moderne mais fantaisie..."

Discussion

Claire Chapman Sep 17, 2008:
re use of animation for decoration and pattern While I don't have any particular objection to the use of decoration and pattern as a the translation for the heading in your context, I would use caution in using it as a general, or standard, translation for animation.

Animation come from animate, from the Latin animatus, pp. of animare, to give life to. While one can give the illusion of life to a drawn figure by animating it, and then use an still image of that figure as a decoration for a t-shirt, cap, or mug, an animation is not typically a pattern. In other words, a drawing from an animation can be used as a decorative pattern but an animation is not a pattern.
David BUICK (asker) Sep 12, 2008:
Hi Emma. It's definitely about the materials being used to make various items in a line of clothing. "Animations" was the title of a section describing a list of characters, motifs, and so on, used on jerseys, tops, etc.
Emma Paulay Sep 12, 2008:
Hi, Eutychus. What makes you think this is about the clothing itself? The context looks to be talking about promotion to me.

Animation Art, Characters & Anime [or Animations or Cartoon Characters]

I believe that they are talking about the TYPE of graphic designs that they are putting on the garments: the graphics used on the garments are taken from animated films (animations). If you think that the title "Animation Art, Characters and Anime" is too long, you could shorten the title to Animation Art or Animation Characters, or just use Animations, Or you could switch it up and go with Cartoon Characters. Depending on your target audience, you could go with just toons, as shown below.

Animation Art & Characters
