French term

croiser les regards inter-générations

French to English Marketing Marketing
(un programme pour) croiser les regards inter-générations et adapter les entreprises

'A program for the exchange/ sharing of cross-generational ideas/ perspectives and for change in businesses'?

The term 'inter-générations' appears later in the text so I would like to create a similar phrase in English and not to resort to 'the exchange of ideas between generations.
Does anyone have any brainwaves?
Thanks

Mr.Q (asker) Oct 27, 2011:
I suppose networking can entail an exchange of ideas, as well as contact details. 'réseautage' did sound a bit forced to me, almost like a high school student translating without a dictionary. However, it was actually an established French businessman!
Joshua Pepper Oct 27, 2011:
If you ask me, "réseautage" sounds like some Académie-fueled attempt to control language... "Networking" is a slight interpretation and departure from the source text, but it might work, according to the rest of the text.
Mr.Q (asker) Oct 27, 2011:
so 'croiser les regards' can= 'networking'
I recently heard 'réseautage' for networking, are the two valid?
Mr.Q (asker) Oct 27, 2011:
but is that not often the case on this forum, that answers might not fit with the style of the translator? Should it no be up to the translator to decide whether suggestions fit with his style? Just a thought (and I am really stumped!)
writeaway Oct 27, 2011:
it's hard to offer suggestions because this sort of text has to sound coherent. Interjecting terms thought up by someone else may not fit in with the English being used in the translation or with the style and register of the rest of the text.
Mr.Q (asker) Oct 27, 2011:
This is the opening line. It goes on to talk of a program/seminar encouraging older people in business (50+) to work hand in hand with younger businessmen. The idea is that each party has something of value to bring to the company and that the tension between the tow is of value.

Please give us some more context. What is this programme? What does it say before and after this?

Just a random idea, it may or may not be appropriate.

neutral Jennifer Levey : Apology accepted. That said, I'm still astonished at the inanimate dullness of the proposed answer although it is not necessarily invalid in basic linguistic terms; it's sad also that no-one (inc. me...) has come up with anything better.

I apologize for my hostility. I would have liked explanations though.

to promote intergenerational collaboration

It sounds like a program to promote intergenerational collaboration in the workplace.
