French term

... soit realisée

French to English Tech/Engineering Engineering: Industrial Plant
Le contractant, dans le more operatoire qu'il doit etablir, intégrera les consignes de sécurité telles que l'élimination des conditions dangereuses de travail *soit realisées*.

Being a little dumb here... how do I translate this?!

Thanks!
Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (1): Richard Benham

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

Amy Christie (asker) Jan 17, 2006:
Sorry my mistake - no 's' at the end. Time I had a break and rested my poor eyes...
Richard Benham Jan 17, 2006:
No "s" on "soit realise", I hope?
Amy Christie (asker) Jan 17, 2006:
oops! mode operatoire

... the necessary safety instructions to ensure that hazardous working conditions are avoided

Full sentence :
In drawing up the operating procedures, the Contractor will include the necessary safety instructions to ensure that hazardous working conditions are avoided.

I think this covers it OK.

or "are prevented" as suggested by André
Peer comment(s):

agree David Goward : So do I
1 min
agree Andre de Vries : prevented
4 mins
agree Sylvia Smith : I would go with eliminated, as the original has "élimination"
12 mins
agree Enza Longo : another vote for eliminated
22 mins
agree Richard Benham : This is OK, but wordy. Also, it is better if rewriting is performed so that the passive voice is eliminated or avoided.//NB You prevent events; conditions are eliminated (if already present) or avoided (if not).

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks to everyone for the help. This sentence was very helpful, Graham, and 'avoided' is the right choice here, I feel."

French term (edited): ... soit realise

subjunctive but I would alter the sentence structure

The contractor...will carry out the security instructions in such a way as to eliminate the ......

, dans le more operatoire qu'il doit etablir, intégrera les consignes de sécurité telles que l'élimination des conditions dangereuses de travail *soit realisées*.
Peer comment(s):

neutral David Goward : You are basically right but,as I understand it, the Contractor is to write the safety (not security, IMHO) instructions, not carry them out.
8 mins
neutral Richard Benham : With David. I'd also go with "so that", as David has suggested to Sylvia.

The easiest way to handle this sort of construction.

Actually, "eliminate" is probably not so bright a choice. It presupposes that the dangerous working conditions are already there. In fact, however, this is about defining procedures for work that hasn't been done yet, and so "avoid" might be better.
