The only clue is that this is a list of things that a facilities management contractor has to keep a supply of. This relates to the technical facilities of an office complex. Which particular technical bit, it is impossible to say. Not "bearings" please, as I have already used that for "paliers".

main / secondary Barbara, that can be true in certain contexts (yours?), but isn't necessarily so in all. For example, in an i/c engine, the main bearings just happen to be of the journal bearing type, yes... but the fact that it is 'palier' doesn't specifically mean 'main', so you need to be wary...

If "they" (the end client?) say "palier is a main bearing and a roulement is a secondary bearing", chouette!, hibou-leversent peut-être les habitudes, but they are free to call them that, and I have no argument with it. Can't see palier ever being "gear".

Owls I have been told that palier is a main bearing and a roulement is a secondary bearing. Any comments? I can't see any evidence to support paliers being translated as gears and it would, indeed, be confusing if it had both meanings.

whales If a French text says baleines et cachalots you would simply say "whales", no? (in most cases). Same for French words like vannes, valves, clapets and palier, roulement. Since they are simply different kinds of valves and bearings, you can use a single English word in many cases. Charge extra per word to make up for the loss.

Thanks; yes bague exists also. All depends on the real shape and function.
agree Tony M : Asker, 'paliers' and 'roulements' are simply two different types of 'bearing'; we don't usually differentiate them with a single term in EN, but have to qualify what type of 'bearing' it is (journal, ball, etc.); tend to agree with Bourth's 'oilless b.'
