French term

French to English
Other
Certificates, Diplomas, Licenses, CVs
birth certificate
In a birth certificate from the Democratic Republic of the Congo:
...fils de Monsieur xxx (ev) et de Madame xxx (ev)
The only definition I've been able to find for this abbreviation is "en ville," which I suppose could be logical, but I thought that was used primarily for mail delivery. Would that abbreviation appear on a birth certificate, or is there something else going on here that I'm missing?

I am posting this answer on behalf of Alex Greenland, who cannot post it because he is no longer registered with Proz. Alex found two references in which "ev" is spelled out as "en vie" and contrasted with "dcd" "décédé":http://www.journalofficiel.cd/adm/uploads_jo/f9c65ba5a2be21f...
