French term

plan d’encombrement périphérique

French to English Tech/Engineering Manufacturing
This is found in a contract about the construction of a solar park.

"Un plan de division et un plan d’encombrement périphérique feront apparaître l’emprise définitive des éléments composant la Centrale."

Any ideas welcome!

overall perimeter layout plan

I think it just means the perimtere outline, without worrying about the internal breakdown — this is of course the main things of concern to other parties, and of course, presence of surrounding trees, tall buildings, etc.

agree Andrew Bramhall : Now I've told you about this before, Tony! No false modesty, worth at least a 4 rating!

Thanks, Andrew! Well, I have no personal experience of this term in use, it is just my (informed, I hope!) deduction.
agree philgoddard : I'm not sure "overall" is necessary. But yes, "encombrement" means what objects are where.

Thanks, Phil! 'overall' really encompasses the notion of 'encomrbeent' = "how much space it takes up" — sometimes things like 'space volume envelope'

Merci, Samuël !
neutral Daryo : does sounds plausible, but they should know already what's around the site before even starting the project, plus it has no direct impact on "l'emprise définitive des éléments composant la Centrale".

Obviously I used a facile example; but there are lots of reasons, in the context of planning authorization, for example, for people to know about the periphery of the installations without being concerned by the interior details.
