French term

digues

French to English Other Construction / Civil Engineering repairing covenant in a commercial lease
I have searched extensively and can only find "dykes" which cannot be right here, as this only concerns a shop in a town.

Discussion

B D Finch Mar 24, 2015:
@Asker If there are "murs de soutènement" then it could be somewhere hilly, with rivers etc. (My murs de soutènement keep my house (in a town) from falling into my neighbour's garden 4 metres below.) Alternatively it could be some sort of catch-all clause that includes every conceivable configuration.

Note from asker:
No no Chakib, this is part of shop in an ordinary French town!!

buttresses

I think "buttresses" is preferable to "embankments", as the latter suggests earthworks which would hardly apply to a shop in a town.
Peer comment(s):

neutral Yolanda Broad : embankments sounds like the right term to me.

Originally dykes and retaining walls and nowadays mostly non- applicable.
