VOTING BY VOTE TABULATOR IN THE RETURNING OFFICE
When you are ready to vote, please follow these steps.
1. Take the secrecy folder containing your ballot behind the voting screen.
2. Remove the ballot from the secrecy folder and look for the name of the candidate you wish to vote for.
3. Mark an X in the white circle next to the candidate’s name of your choice.
4. Place the marked ballot inside the secrecy folder and take it to the person at the vote tabulator.
If you make a mistake in marking your ballot, return it to me with the secrecy folder. I will give you a replacement ballot to mark.

: Das empfinde ich auch als richtig. Der Wähler gibt nicht direkt in ein Gerät ein, sondern er markiert eine Wahlkarte, die dann unter Anleitung des Wahlhelfers in dieses Gerät eingeschoben wird.

Versuch einer Wortneuschöpfung entsprechend der Aufgabenstellung:
In Anlehnung an Kartenleser (bei Kreditkarten oder Bankkarten) ist das ein Stimmkartenlesegerät (bewusst nicht Stimmkartenleser - das könnte eine Person sein, die die Vertraulichkeit der Wahl verletzt).
Die Bezeichnung ergibt sich aus dem beschriebenen Vorgang - ich frage mich aber, warum auf der gleichen Logik basierend das Gerät dann nicht ballot reading appliance heißt.
