French term

tronçon avec fruit

French to English Tech/Engineering Construction / Civil Engineering construction of telecom towers
Regarding lattice towers:

Les profils des tronçons sont droits (section triangulaire constante) ou avec fruit (section triangulaire variable).

Does anyone have any clue what they might mean?? Thanks in advance!

Sorry Phil -posted my idea about taper before reading your entry - we seem to be thinking along the same lines, so maybe we're onto something?
Anne Micallef (asker) May 29, 2019:
I think it might mean that some of the sections are tapered rather than straight - could anyone verify this?
philgoddard May 29, 2019:
It must be something like definition 4 here http://dictionary.reverso.net/french-definition/Fruit
I can't quite visualise what this means - tapering? Like a Toblerone, but bigger at one end?
philgoddard May 29, 2019:
In some ways, it doesn't really matter what "avec fruit" means, because you could simply say "are regularly or variably triangular in section". But it would be interesting to know.

See the discussion box, and Ahmad's reference, which says: "Le fruit est un terme employé en architecture pour désigner une diminution de l'épaisseur qu'on donne à un mur au fur et à mesure qu'on s'élève."
